Electrophysiology Testing
Recording the electrical activity in your heart and electrical pathways to your heart, an electrophysiology (EP) study is used to help identify the cause of rhythmic disturbances of the heart and the appropriate course of treatment. During an EP study, your physician will use catheter-based electrodes to replicate your abnormal heart beat in a safe, controlled manner. Subsequently, your physician may administer medications to find which best controls your problem or make a determination as to what procedure or device will produce the best results for you.
EP studies are regularly ordered to determine the cause of an abnormal heart rhythm, to locate its site or origin, and to decide upon a treatment plan.
