CANM Supports UMC Endowed Chair

In support of cardiac education and research within the state of Mississippi, Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi recently donated $75,000 to the University of Mississippi Medical Center to support the Patrick H. Lehan Chair of Cardiovascular Research Endowed Chair in the Department of Medicine. This money was matched by the Lehan family to make to total contribution of $150,000. The ultimate monetary goal for the Lehan Chair endowment is $2 million dollars.
The chair is named in honor of Patrick H. Lehan, chief of cardiology at the University of Mississippi from 1970 to 1995. During his tenure, he trained over 75 cardiologists – most of whom practice within the state. Dr. Lehan received the Silver Distinguished Achievement Award from the Mississippi Heart Association in 1993, and the prestigious Laureate Award of the American College of Physicians in 1993.
Dr. Lehan was the Mississippi Heart Association William D. Love Research Professor of Cardiology from 1968-1973, during which time he made some of the first attempts to image the coronary arteries to better diagnose and treat heart disease. During his career, he authored more than 160 scientific and research-related publications for medical journals. He also served as a council representative of the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association for Mississippi and Louisiana.
