CANM Spreads Cardiology Services Throughout Region And Improves Care Through Automated Medical Record System.

Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi (CANM), based in Tupelo, now has regional outpatient cardiology clinics in Starkville, Columbus and Oxford. CANM’s goal is to make heart care more accessible and available throughout the region.

Our first regional clinic, located in Starkville, opened in May 1999 with a second clinic in Columbus following soon thereafter in the fall of 1999. In September 2003, we combined resources with The Oxford Heart Clinic which became our third regional outpatient clinic in north Mississippi.
With a team of 19 cardiologists, CANM is able to staff each of these regional clinics with a cardiologist from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Expanding the number of available cardiologists in the region means patients not only can get an appointment closer to home, but faster as well. To further enhance the quality of patient care, CANM also takes advantage of North Mississippi Medical Center’s fully computerized medical record system that makes the patient’s clinical data available quickly and efficiently.
Our cardiologists have instant access to each patient’s medical record. That record not only includes history from the cardiology office or the hospital, but doctor’s office visits at any NMMC medical clinic.
Having this instant access to a patient’s medical history 24 hours a day, seven days a week can help save precious time, and enable our cardiologists to have much more thorough information on which to base the patient’s diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
While access is easy for physicians who need the information to care for the patient, security for on-line medical records is extremely tight to protect patient confidentiality.
