Everything Your Heart Desires

BMI (Body Mass Index) Calculator

One of easiest, non symptom-specific means of identifying an increased risk of developing heart disease is Body Mass Index (BMI). An excellent indicator of healthy or unhealthy weights in adults regardless of body frame/type, BMI is a numeric score primarily based upon your height in relation to your weight. A BMI over 25 is cause for concern and should alert you to an elevated risk for heart disease and stoke, even if no other risk factors are present.

The American Heart Association provides a free BMI Calculator on its Website. To access it, click here.

If you discover that your BMI is over 25, you should strongly considering losing a few pounds. Not only does extra weigh cause your heart to work harder, it also increases your blood pressure, raises the level of bad cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood, and enhances the likelihood of developing diabetes.
